PC with NVIDIA
Most open-source tools for images and video (ComfyUI, Stable Diffusion, FLUX, LoRA training) are built for CUDA, a technology of NVIDIA graphics cards. For image and video generation and for training, it is the fastest and most hassle-free choice. AMD and Intel cards have limited support.
Mac with Apple silicon
For language models, a Mac is a full-fledged alternative. Its memory is shared by the CPU and GPU, so even large models fit: MacBook Pro with M5 Max has up to 128 GB, Mac Studio with M5 Ultra up to 512 GB — more than any consumer graphics card offers. Models run in Ollama or LM Studio on Apple's MLX framework, speech transcription in whisper.cpp. Images and video (ComfyUI) work on a Mac too, but noticeably slower than on a similarly priced NVIDIA card.
